CATCHING UP WITH TIM LEDWITH
Last year, we spoke with Tim Ledwith, who was assaulted on NE Broadway in 2018 by Proud Boys Tusitala "Tiny" Toese and Donovan Flippo. That interview, which details the incident, can be found here. In early 2019, renewed scrutiny on police interactions with right-wing organizers, and the failure of prosecutors to hold them accountable, brought his case out of hibernation. This morning, after a court case that saw Proud Boys showing up in force and "Tiny" fleeing to American Samoa for a time, Multnomah County District Cour Judge Kathleen Bailey sentenced Toese to 2 years of probation, 80 hours of community service, and ordered him to pay Ledwith's medical bills. He is also forbidden from attending protests in Multnomah County for 2 years.
Totality of Circumstances caught up with Ledwith this afternoon to talk about the sentence, his reactions, and issues with the criminal justice system and its unequal treatment of political and social activists.
