Join us on October 27th for a Sunday morning street party to celebrate the grand opening of the Barbara Walker Crossing, the long-awaited bridge over West Burnside that will connect Forest Park and Washington Park via the Wildwood Trail.
Festivities will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Grand Ronde Color Guard and Brass Roots Experience band leading a parade to the Crossing from NW 24th Place and Burnside. Foot Traffic will host a morning run + a 100 meter dash up West Burnside.
Plus, we’ll have all-you-can-eat pancakes.
The Crossing ceremony will feature a tribal blessing, plus a “ribbon-tying” designed and choreographed by world-renowned theatrical designer Michael Curry and performed by dance troupe Bodyvox.
Congressman Earl Blumenauer, City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, Metro Councilor Sam Chase, Portland Parks & Recreation Director Adena Long, and others will be on hand.
For details on how to access the site (by foot, bike, car, or shuttle), and to RSVP for all-you-can-eat pancakes and the shuttle, please visit barbarawalkercrossing.com.
Remember: free commemorative Crossing T-shirts by Nike to the first 300 people through the gates!
