US Foreign Policy, Helping Volatile People, Gentrification Pedalpalooza Ride, Columbia Oil Terminals
Joe Clement hosts and we hear:
- Bill Resnick talk with Phyllis Bennis about US Foreign Policy, both criticizing the Obama administration's two-faced approach and offering a Do No Harm alternative.
- Iven Hale offers a commentary by way of personal story about community mental health, the challenges of helping highly volatile people, and how our mental health and correctional systems fail them.
- Joe talks with Hart Noecker and Nick Caleb about a Pedalpalooza ride Hart is leading on June 9th that tours sites of gentrification around Portland. They consider gentrification, profit-driven development, the idea of a "right to the city", which was a pillar of Caleb's campaign that drew almost 18,000 votes in the recent election.
- Laurie Mercier talks with Eric de Place of the Sightline Institute in Seattle about the proposed oil depot terminals in the Port of Vancouver, and the catastrophic environmental & economic consequences to the region if these are rammed through. They also touch on resistance in Vancouver by both environmentalists and the those worried about local business.
