Maura Doherty thought she knew what life would hold for her. Born one of seven children in an Irish Catholic family in the Bronx, NY, Maura followed her dream of becoming a Catholic Sister. She thought that devoting her life to God and the service of others was her calling. And it was for nine years until everything changed. Her adventures as Sister Maura and after she left religious life brought her an even deeper understanding of her true calling. Her newly published memoir, She Blooms: Finding Home After the Convent, tells the story of her fight for environmental justice and worker protection and the allies who mentored her along the way. Maura is a writer and storyteller who lives in Portland, OR.
