On today's show, we welcome Suzy Vitello, author of the new novel Bitterroot from Sibylline Press. Suzy’s published fiction includes the novel Faultland and the young adult novels The Moment Before and The Empress Chronicles series. Her award-winning short fiction and nonfiction has appeared in The Rumpus, Mississippi Review, The Southampton Review, and various anthologies and other literary journals. Suzy’s also one of the best writing teachers, editors, and book coaches in the Pacific Northwest, if not the whole country.
In the words of fellow Portland writer Rene Denfeld, Bitterroot “strikes at the heart of loss, and the alchemy of change... Bitterroot is an exceptional novel by a great talent.”
And in the words of Cheryl Strayed, Suzy is “smart, kind, thoughtful and good to her bones—and all of those qualities shine through in her writing.”
This is my third interview with Suzy and it’s always a joy to talk with her, whether the subject is books or our beloved Portland Timbers and Trailblazers.
