Our Featured Goddesses this week:
Lozen - Noise rock band formed in Bellingham, WA featuring Annie Hozoji Matheson-Margullis and Justine Maria Valdez. Their debut album "Elevator Music" (Under the name T-N-A, Trina and Annie) was recorded in 2003 in Tacoma and released in 2005, followed by the CD "Enemies Against Power" and two EPs. Lozen went on hiatus in 2015
Cacadou Look - a five-woman pop rock band formed in 1983 in Opatija, Croatia. They were the first Yugoslav all-female band to release an LP. Cacadou Look weren't the first all female music group in Croatia, but certainly the first to achieve mainstream success, with several radio hits and television appearances. They released a string of singles and two albums. They played their last gig in May of 1991.
The Shaggs - Three sisters from New Hampshire (Helen, Betty, and Dot) formed at the insistence of their father. Rolling Stone magazine called their debut album "the worst album ever" while Frank Zappa hailed it as an avant garde masterpiece. Their sound is rather...um...interesting. A critic once said that they were "three girls playing 4 different songs at the same time". Although their sound is rather "non-traditional", I would be remiss if I didn't feature their music at least once on a show that covers bands made up of all women.
Goddess Obscura is a 3-hour long music program that airs the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month (late Sunday night) at Midnight.
