The COVID-19 pandemic has disparate impacts on people of different groups, including those impacted by the opioid crisis. Drug users face increased barriers to accessible treatment due to pandemic-related closures. Social distancing can make it harder for them to receive treatment and prevent overdoses.
KBOO's Althea Billings spoke with Dr. Sheila Vakharia, the Deputy Director of the Department of Research and Academic Engagement at the Drug Policy Alliance to learn more.
The Drug Policy Alliance supports Oregon Initiative Proposal 44. More information can be found on the 'Yes' campaign's website, yesonip44.org.
