Featured tonight on Talking Earth Portland poetry staple MF Mcauliffe, who will reading from her book "I'm Afraid of Americans" , a collection of riveting stories about coming to America during the frightening years of the early Reagan Administration. M. F. McAuliffe has worked formally and informally as a house-cleaner, political pollster, teacher and librarian in schools and colleges in South Australia, Melbourne, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon. She co-authored the poetry collection Fighting Monsters (Vaughan-Willoughby Publishing, Melbourne, 1998) and the limited-edition artist's book Golems Waiting Redux (GobQ Books/Publication Studio, Portland, 2011). Her long poem “Orpheus” became the libretto for "Orpheus, An Australian Tragedy," performed at La Mama Courthouse Theatre in Carlton, Victoria (May, 2000).
Towards the end there will be a memorable cameo by RV Branam. Branham is author/compiler of Curse+Berate in 69+ Languages (Soft Skull Press). His fiction has been anthologized in Dinosaurs 2, Full Spectrum 3, Ghosts 2, Hybrid Beasts (a Red Lemonade e-book anthology), and Midnight Graffiti; and in magazines including Back Brain Recluse (UK), Ellery Queen's Mystery, Midnight Graffiti, Isaac Asimov's SF, Tema (a bilingual Croatian magazine), 2 gyrls quarterly, and online in In Other Words, Mérida, Red Lemonade, The Writing Disorder and W*O*R*K.
