Founding artistic director of Bag and Baggage talks about "The Island In Winter" and his departure

 

Dmae talks with Scott Palmer, founding artistic director of Bag & Baggage Productions whose last day will be March 1st. He talks about the upcoming world premiere of The Island In Winter or La Isla en Invierno --the first of the Problem Play Project.  Scott reminisces about his 15 year tenure at the theatre company based in Hillsboro and about the his future. The show runs March 7-24.

The Island In Winter, adapted from Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale is the inaugural production of the Problem Play Project, an ambitious three-year effort by Bag & Baggage to adapt new works from Shakespeare's problem plays with emerging playwrights of color in Oregon to re-imagine Shakespeare's works with a diversity and equity lens.

The Island In Winter has been adapted into into a bilingual world premiere by Hillsboro-native Carlos-Zenen Trujillo. The play about jealousy, prophecy, magic, and redemption transports the action away from Sicilia and Bohemia to Miami and Havana.

Scott Palmer who directs the show will be leaving before the opening to take on a new position as artistic director of Company of Fools, a professional theater in Sun Valley, ID.

at Bag & Baggage theatre (at The Vault Theatre)
located at 350 E. Main St. in Hillsboro.

Magazine Series Lectures take place in the auditorium on each Friday performance starting at 6:45 PM and last approximately 30 minutes.

Post-show discussions and talk-backs with the cast and crew take place immediately following each Sunday matinee and last approximately 45 minutes.
