Portland non-profit Age & Gender Equity in the Arts is hosting Unconscious Bias: Achieving Gender Equity symposium March 3rd and 4th at Portland State University. The symposium features over 40 presenters and performers including Dael Orlandersmith, Michaela Watkins, Anjali School of Dance, and LaRhonda Steele. Minita Gandhi presents her original show "Muthaland" at the end of the symposium. This event is open to people of all genders, and scholarship support is available for the registration fee. Attendees can also request reasonable accommodations through February 24th.
Tonight, we talk to Jane Vogel and Gigi Williams. Jane is the founder of Age & Gender Equity in the Arts and head of the symposium steering committee. Gigi is an award-winning filmmaker and steering committee member.
Halfway through tonight's episode is a clip of Bread and Roses collective member Puchi de Jesus telling a story about post-election protests. That clip contains audio of protestors yelling and flashbangs in the first minute.
