Dr. Paul Gorman on why we need a National Single Payer Health System

 Hosted by Joe Uris.

Today's guest is Dr. Paul Gorman from Oregon Health & Science University.

Here in America, we pay some of the Highest Costs for Medical Care, yet reap some of the Worst Results.

Why?  We Waste Way Too Much Money on the Private Health Insurance Industry.

Comments

I agree with most of what was discussed on this show. One comment that I would like to make is the use of the term "Health Care". This has and is being used for both health insurance and health care from providers. The so called "Health Care reform act" had nothing to do with health care. What it was trying to do was find a way to provide "Health Insurance" for all. Health Care and Health insurance are not the same thing. The important thing is for everyone to have access to good Health Care and to have it paid for. The problem is in the health care system and the health insurance system. I agree that a single payer system will go a long ways to fixing the problem. All that the health care reform act did was try to find a way for people to pay for the problem and not fix the problem.  This is so typical of our government. They do not fix problems they just try to find a way to pay for them. I think that most people do not understand the the differance. When I listen to this show I found it hard to distinguish the two. I think that it is important for people to understand the differance between the two and the problems that we face.
Another option to single payer is for all health care providers and RX to have a standard set price that is paid by all. If the health care system would set reasonable rates and hold to them it would help stablize and even out the playing field. Most people do not understand that what the doctor or hospital actually gets paid all depends on what the insurance company negotiated. The only ones that pay full price are the people that DO NOT have health insurance. The system is broken and needs to be fixed.
I do support single payer and I am against the Obama care. This should not be a Party issue. This is a major issue for All of the public.
