Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert present a show recorded just a few days before this airing. Jim has some interesting information on how he and Lorraine do taste tests and how "winners" and "losers" are determined -- that is, which ones make it to the next round and which ones are destined for the compost pile. Plus, provided you have the equipment, it's not hard at all to make apple cider. And a simple receipe to make and brine your own olives. Also, now that it is dormant season, this is a fine time to divide rhubarb. Finally, it's time to get out there and get some leaves, that wonderful free source of garden nutrients and soil enhancement.
As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (persimmon) and a new Garden Stumper--the first listener who writes in with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month is "birds," in honor of the Thanksgiving turkey. Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is "cold frame." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.
Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper if you don't want to call in.
