March is time to prune plums in Portland
There's more to tomato varieties than color and size, and we breakdown most all the differences. And, can I plant tomatoes now--a primer on cool- and warm-season crops.

Host Glen Andresen and co-pilot Jim Gilbert are once again in the studio for a live show. Still time to plant bare-root, but barely. And time to get almost all seeds going inside. The is the month that Jim recommends pruning prunus (i.e. plums, peaches, nectarines, cherries, apricots). But how? Jim tells all.

As always, we'll have a new Plant of the Month (tomatoes) and a new Garden Stumper--the first caller with the correct answer gets a free sharpening of a gardening hand tool from Cully Farm Store in Northeast Portland. Our musical theme this month is, in honor of Women's History Month, some of Glen's favorite blues musicians. Plus, our Dirtbag Dictionary term is "top dressing." And finally, what Glen is trying to understand this month.

Don't forget, if you have a gardening question, and don't want to call in, you can always email us at thedirtbag@kboo.org -- we'll answer your question on the air during the next show. And, surprise, this is the same email to use to answer The Garden Stumper this month.

The Dirtbag, a garden variety show... Listen. Laugh. Learn.
