A more political version of Pinocchio is featured in a Portland Art Museum exhibition
The Portland Art Museum's new exhibition "Crafting Pinocchio" takes visitors inside the world of Guillermo del Toro's Academy Award-winning version of Pinocchio, created largely in Portland with local stop-motion animators.
Pinocchio Co-Director Mark Gustafson and Animation Supervisor Brian Hansen join S.W. Conser in the KBOO studios for a special hour-long discusion about the political and cultural origins of the Pinocchio story, the use of lighting and color to pack an emotional punch, the influence of classic live-action film on animation aesthetics, and the uniquely nomadic lifestyle of stop-motion animators.
