Words and Pictures celebrates its 19th anniversary on the air by inviting back its first-ever guest, Craig Thompson.
Craig took the comics world by storm in 2003 with his epic graphic memoir Blankets, a poignant recollection of young love and lost innocence, and cemented his literary reputation with 2011's Habibi.
In this 2018 conversation, S.W. Conser talks with Craig about the re-issue of his 2004 sketchbook travelogue Carnet de Voyage (featuring 32 pages of additional artwork and musings), about the importance of cultural exchange and the inspiration found in North Africa and Europe, and about the continuing callbacks in his work to the spirituality nurtured during his rural midwestern childhood.
